Pedro Souto

Founder of PWA. Former algorithmic trader and institutional technology builder, now designing operating architectures for private families.

Pedro Souto founded PWA on a specific conviction: that the most consequential gaps in a family’s financial architecture are not investment gaps — they are operating gaps. And that closing them requires someone who has built real financial systems, not just advised on them.

He spent the early part of his career in the harder rooms of finance. As a high-frequency algorithmic trader at DV Trading, he built proprietary trading systems where execution precision measured in milliseconds determined outcomes. At FRC Group, he built AI-driven investment analytics across asset management and wealth management — turning fragmented financial data into portfolio intelligence and performance insight that reduced material losses and supported measurable ROI. At Accenture, he advised major financial institutions across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa on transformation programmes where the stakes were regulatory, reputational, and operational at once. At Banco de Portugal, he led the team that built the institution’s regulatory analytics infrastructure — a platform used by 90+ colleagues and supporting €15M in enforcement-related outcomes.

None of that background is incidental. It is the foundation that makes the work at PWA possible.

Why PWA

The gap Pedro saw — from inside institutions, from inside advisory, and from inside private families he knew well — was always the same one. Excellent specialists surrounded by coordination failures. Investment managers, tax counsel, and legal advisors each doing their part, and none of them owning the architecture that connects the parts.

What was missing was not more advice. It was an architect willing to see the whole system, take responsibility for how it fits together, and do the unglamorous work of making it hold.

PWA exists for that. Pedro leads every engagement personally, and the firm is kept deliberately small so that this remains true.

Background

Pedro holds a master’s degree in Engineering Systems and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, and dual undergraduate and graduate training in Economics and Finance with a major in Financial Markets from NOVA School of Business and Economics — where he also taught Financial Markets Trading and Advanced Financial Modelling for a decade, reaching over 2,000 students. He is completing a PhD in Computer Science at IST.
